Medical Radiation Technology

Program highlights

Admission requirements

For graduates of the new curriculum (OSS): Ontario Secondary School Diploma (30 credits) or equivalent or mature student status, including:

• Any grade 12 English (C) or (U)
• Any grade 12 mathematics (C), (U), or (M)
• Any grade 12 biology (U), or chemistry (C) or (U), or introductory kinesiology (U)
• Any grade 12 physics (C) or (U)

Please note: A minimum of 75% is required in each prerequisite course

You must participate in a full-time clinical training experience in semesters five, six, and seven of the program. In the hospital environment, you may be exposed to disturbing situations when dealing with trauma, operating room procedures, or other challenging patient conditions.

Placement locations are determined before clinical practicum courses through a site selection process. Clinical partner sites are subject to change; therefore, specific geographic regions may not be available at the time of your placement and other regions may be added. Please note that when you accept a seat in the program, you also accept to go to any of the program’s affiliated clinical sites available at the time of your placement. Your placement location may be different from your preference and you should expect that you may have to relocate for your placement.The placement will be delivered at an accredited hospital in Canada that is an approved clinical partner of Cambrian College.

All related clinical placement expenses, such as travel, parking, and accommodation, are the responsibility of the student. Students continue their clinical placement hours through reading week with no interruption.

Before the start of clinical training, all hospital sites require documentation of vaccinations, and/or immunity, and other non-medical requirements.

To graduate from the Medical Radiation Technology program at Cambrian College, you must demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and judgment determined by the competency profile of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). These competencies must be demonstrated within the time frame of the clinical portion of the program.

Furthering your studies

Students successfully completing the Medical Radiation Technology program may be eligible to further their studies in Cambrian’s one-year Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – Graduate Certificate program. There are also post-graduate certificate program opportunities in multiple imaging modalities available to graduates of this program.

College or university degree opportunities  

If you are a graduate of this program, you may continue your studies at a college or university and you may receive credit(s) for your prior college education. Refer to Cambrian’s college and university agreement details for further information. 

Success in this program requires that you come equipped with some program-specific technology requirements.
